Erosion of Empathy
In Culture Jam there is a section that touchs on the subject of violience and sexual news on television programs. The book brings up the idea that such programs with violience and sexual content has eroded our ability to feel real emotions or empathize. I personally do not agree with that statement at all, but I do believe it is truely based on individual people, which alot of the ideas suggested in this book are. Sure maybe on average it has created a lack of empathy, but I do not think it should be generalized to all Americans. I know that if I were to see someone shot in real life I would be in shock and would be very upset, whether I knew the person or not. Seeing things on televsion is completly different then experiencing something in real life and I do not think what appears on tv creates people to feel indiffernt about violience. Even when I see pictures in ads of sick people or hear stories on the news about someone dying from an overdose to drugs it makes me upset. If anything I think this types of ads helps the everyday America see that such issues in life are real and are happening to people everyday.

All about me
Hello, my name is Cynthia Michelle Balmer. I am orginally from Elizabethtown PA. I am currently a sophmore at Shippensburg University. I have four amazing sisters who mean the world to me. I just recently became an Aunt to my second nephew who was born on August 27, 2011. Family has always been an important part of my life because my sisters and I have been throught alot together. Along with important things in my life, cheerleading deffinently makes the top of my list. I have been cheering since the third grade on recerational teams and then continued through high school. I made the All American Team during high school which a really great honor. I continue to cheer my freshmen year at Shippensburg as well as this year. We have had some struggles as a cheerleading team but without cheering I would be lost up here. I still have not figure out what I want to do in the future so I am undeclared. I hope that this year will help me chose what best interest me as a career. I enjoy listening to pop music and some country but mainly music that you can dance and sing to. All through grade school I never enjoyed reading until my high school started a flex period where we had to read. So I started visiting the library more and found some books that I really enjoyed reading. The last book I read was Breaking Dawn, part to the Twlight series. Call me a nerd but those are the types of books I like. I like books with romance and supernatural characters and events. I hope to become a deeper thinker and to be able to better my understanding of complex literature in this class, as well as to increase my enjoyment of reading.
